G3-PLC Alliance celebrates 5 years certification program at European Utility Week 2019

G3-PLC Alliance attends the upcoming European Utility Week (EUW) from 12th to 14th November in Paris. The EUW marks both the highlight as well as the final stage in this year's alliance fair trade calendar. As one of the most pressing issues at the exhibition is interoperability, it aptly coincides with G3-PLC Alliance celebrating 5 years of G3-PLC certification program. Furthermore, the G3-PLC Alliance booth features three application demonstrations, two of which are presented for the first time.

5 years G3-PLC certification program
More and more stakeholders are pushing their way onto the continuously evolving energy market. Thus, interoperability is an important asset of communication systems in intelligent power grids. In 2014 the G3-PLC Alliance started a global certification program to assure the correct implementation of the G3-PLC standard and to facilitate interoperability between all the adopters of the G3-PLC standard. This step has proven to be very useful and successful. The G3-PLC Alliance has certified over 300 devices from almost 50 different manufacturers in 25 countries so far, covering chipsets and a wide range of G3-PLC products. On this occasion, the alliance holds a celebration for members and guests at the G3-PLC Alliance booth.

New G3-PLC application demonstrations
The booth features two new demonstrations this year. Andrea Informatique shows a first prototype implementing a hybrid G3-PLC/802.15.4g-based RF profile. This private initiative reflects a general trend observed in the PLC ecosystem targeting applications ranging from smart metering to IoT. G3-PLC Alliance is well aware of this development and is exploring opportunities for a hybrid networking communication profile. Secondly, there will be a new demo of public lighting controlled by G3-PLC. Devices provided by alliance member Neuron have been used to develop a command and control application with street lights embedding the DALI protocol. DALI commands are carried seamlessly through a G3-PLC network, showing that G3-PLC could be used to carry any application protocol between several points on an electrical grid without additional wiring.
Beyond that, a suitcase is demonstrated at the booth allowing to perform a realistic demonstration of a G3-PLC based metering system with grid analysis, device certification, rollout, operation and maintenance.

Use cases and showcase of products
Millions of G3-PLC devices are on field today and this will get much more in the coming years. The demands placed on data communication in the smart electricity grids are steadily increasing due to digitalization and renewable energies. Projects using G3-PLC mainly focus on smart metering. Other use cases range from applications in street lighting, home energy management systems and electric vehicle charging to railway communication. G3-PLC Alliance presents a new use case film on G3-PLC used for railway and smart city applications on-site at the booth. A selection of certified products from alliance members is also showcased.

G3-PLC Alliance is found at booth M80 with several G3-PLC Alliance and member representatives being present. For appointment requests please contact Leon Vergeer by e-mail to leon.vergeer@g3-plc.com.

About G3-PLC
G3-PLC is a protocol for narrowband low-frequency powerline communications. G3-PLC facilitates high-speed, highly-reliable, long-range communication over the existing powerline grid. With the ability to cross transformers, infrastructure costs are reduced and with its support of IPv6, G3-PLC will support powerline communications into the future.

About the G3-PLC Alliance
The G3-PLC Alliance was formed in order to support, promote and implement G3-PLC in smart grid applications. Its members come from the key stakeholders in the smart grid ecosystem. The objectives of the G3-PLC Alliance consortium are to support G3-PLC in internationally recognized standards bodies to achieve the rapid adoption of G3-PLC specification worldwide and to develop a framework for equipment testing to facilitate interoperability among adopters. Moreover, the Alliance educates the market and promotes the value, benefits and applications of G3-PLC.
